Arrow: "Canaries" Review
This week was the 3 part of the "Canary Trilogy", dealing with Laurel coming into the Canary mask and dealing with the guilt of feeling like she is 'taking Sara's Place'. The main story of the episode revolves around Laurel, and feeling guilt. Oliver doesn't help, with his initial doubt over her being a hero. The others stick up for her, but part of her feels like he is right. This doubt and guilt manifests when Count Vertigo drugs her, and her hallucinations are Sara attacking her for 'wearing Sara's mask'. But by the end of the episode both Oliver and Laurel believe that she has what it takes to be a hero. The other big present day story deals with Oliver, trying to decide whether to tell his Sister Thea that he is the 'Arrow' and the consequences of said actions. All of this brings up hope he is going to deal with the League of Assassins, and him coming to terms with the rest of the team becoming something that will outlive him. Everyone's secrets are on the verge of coming out, and we get to really see Oliver continue his evolution. The flashbacks dealt with the fallout of Misao trying to give China White the Omega virus, from Amanda Waller. This week we get to learn more about who Misao is, and what he is willing to sacrifice for Oliver. But we also get to see more into the mind of Amanda Waller and what lengths she is willing to go to to achieve her goals. Overall this was a great episode, which really dealt with character growth, and who each of them need to be to defeat the enemy on the horizon. Next week continues this arch, with the aptly named episode 'The Return', the promo showing Slade Wilson, while it's also been confirmed that Tommy Merlyn will also appear. I personally cannot wait.
